Terms and Conditions
GUEST INFORMATION
Clear information to help you plan a safe, comfortable and memorable stay at Al Salam Desert Camp.
Important: Submitting an enquiry does not confirm a booking. A reservation is confirmed only an official booking confirmation has been issued by Al Salam Desert Camp.
Al Salam Desert Camp is located in Wahiba Sands, North Sharqiya, Sultanate of Oman.
The camp offers desert accommodation on a Half Board basis, including dinner and breakfast.
No complimentary activities or experiences are included with the accommodation booking. All desert activities and optional experiences are arranged and operated by independent third-party service providers. These services are subject to separate charges, availability, safety requirements and the terms of the respective operators.
Transfers and shuttle services are chargeable and must be separately requested and confirmed in writing.
Submitting an enquiry through our website, WhatsApp, email, telephone or contact form does not constitute a confirmed booking.
A booking is confirmed only after:
- Availability has been verified by Al Salam Desert Camp.
- The final rate, meal plan and inclusions have been communicated to the guest.
- The guest has accepted the quotation.
- The required 50% advance deposit or applicable full payment has been received.
- An official booking confirmation has been issued by Al Salam Desert Camp.
Guests should not make non-refundable travel arrangements until they have received the official booking confirmation.
All rates are quoted in Omani Rial unless otherwise stated.
Accommodation at Al Salam Desert Camp is offered on a Half Board basis and normally includes:
- The confirmed accommodation type.
- Dinner.
- Breakfast.
- Applicable taxes, where stated in the quotation.
Only the services specifically listed in the official quotation and written booking confirmation are included in the confirmed rate.
No desert activity, excursion, experience, transfer or shuttle service is included unless it is expressly stated in writing.
The following services are normally chargeable and must be requested separately:
- Desert activities and excursions.
- Shuttle and transfer services.
- Private tours.
- Additional meals and drinks.
- Special arrangements or private services.
All desert activities are arranged and operated by independent third-party service providers and remain subject to availability, separate charges, safety requirements and the terms of the relevant operator.
Rates may change before a reservation is confirmed. After written confirmation has been issued, the agreed rate will apply unless:
- The guest requests a change to the booking.
- Additional rooms, guests, meals or services are added.
- The accommodation type or stay dates are changed.
- A new government tax or mandatory charge becomes applicable.
To confirm a reservation, the guest is required to pay either:
- An advance deposit of 50% of the total booking value; or
- Full payment before arrival, depending on the booking type and the payment terms stated in the quotation.
The remaining balance, where applicable, must be paid by the deadline stated in the booking confirmation.
Failure to make the required payment within the specified period may result in the reservation being released or cancelled without further notice.
All bank charges, transfer fees, payment-gateway fees and currency-conversion costs are the responsibility of the guest.
Applicable government taxes will either be included in the quotation or shown separately before the booking is confirmed.
Accepted payment methods may include:
- Bank transfer.
- Approved online payment methods.
- Visa.
- MasterCard.
- Cash in Omani Rial, where agreed in advance.
American Express is not accepted unless otherwise confirmed in writing.
Guests should confirm the available payment method before arrival.
The following cancellation policy applies with the confirmed meal plan.
Free Cancellation
Cancellations received at least 14 days before the scheduled arrival date will not incur any cancellation charge.
Cancellation Within 7 Days
Cancellations received within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date will incur a charge equal to 50% of the entire confirmed booking value, including the booked meal plan.
Cancellation Within 3 Days
Cancellations received within 3 days before the scheduled arrival date will incur a charge equal to 100% of the entire confirmed booking value, including the booked meal plan.
No-Show
Failure to arrive without prior written cancellation will be treated as a no-show and will incur a charge equal to 100% of the total confirmed booking value.
Early Departure
No refund will be provided for unused accommodation nights, meals or services resulting from an early departure.
A cancellation is valid only after it has been received and acknowledged in writing by Al Salam Desert Camp.
Where a refund is approved, it will normally be processed through the original payment method. Bank charges, payment-gateway fees and transaction costs may be deducted from the refundable amount.
Special group, event, promotional or non-refundable bookings may be subject to different cancellation conditions. Any different terms will be stated in the relevant quotation or booking confirmation.
Requests to change arrival dates, departure dates, accommodation type, number of rooms, number of guests, meal arrangements or other confirmed services are subject to availability.
A reduction in rooms, nights, guests, meals or services after confirmation may be treated as a partial cancellation and may be subject to the applicable cancellation charges.
Unless otherwise stated in the booking confirmation:
- Check-in is available from 2:00 PM.
- Check-out is required by 11:00 AM.
Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and may incur an additional charge.
Guests arriving later than the agreed check-in time should notify the camp in advance. Late arrival may affect meal arrangements, shuttle services or other confirmed services.
Guests may be required to present a valid passport, national identity card, Omani resident card or other legally accepted identification at check-in.
The name on the reservation should match the identification of the lead guest.
Al Salam Desert Camp reserves the right to refuse check-in where valid identification is not provided.
Children Policy
One child below six years of age may stay with their parents, subject to:
- The permitted occupancy of the confirmed accommodation.
- The applicable child policy.
- The child sharing the existing bedding and accommodation arrangements with the parents.
The ages of all children must be accurately disclosed during the enquiry and booking process.
Additional guests, extra beds, mattresses or meals are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
The maximum permitted occupancy of each accommodation must not be exceeded.
Parents or guardians are responsible for supervising children at all times, particularly around dunes, desert tracks, campfires, vehicles, animals and activity areas.
Al Salam Desert Camp is located approximately 12 kilometres from the main road.
The initial section of the route is paved. The final section includes an off-road desert track.
Road, sand and track conditions may change because of weather, wind, rainfall, moving sand, traffic and seasonal conditions.
Guests travelling in their own vehicle do so at their own responsibility.
Guests are advised to:
- Follow the route shared by Al Salam Desert Camp.
- Remain on the recommended track.
- Avoid driving into soft sand or dunes.
- Contact the camp if they are unsure of the route.
- Follow staff instructions regarding access and parking.
- Avoid unsuitable routes when travelling in a low-clearance vehicle.
Al Salam Desert Camp is not responsible for vehicle damage, recovery costs, towing charges, delays or losses resulting from unsafe driving, failure to follow directions or leaving the recommended route.
Shuttle Service
A chargeable shuttle service may be arranged from the designated meeting point on the main road:
Oman Oil Fuel Station, Al Wasil, Bidiyah
The shuttle service must be reserved in advance.
The confirmed shuttle arrangement may include:
- Pickup from the designated meeting point upon arrival.
- Drop-off at the same meeting point upon departure.
The applicable charge, pickup time and vehicle details will be communicated during the booking process and confirmed in writing.
Guests must arrive at the designated meeting point at the agreed time. Late arrival may affect the shuttle schedule and other confirmed services.
The camp may delay or reschedule the shuttle because of road conditions, weather, traffic, operational requirements or safety considerations.
All desert activities and optional experiences are arranged and operated by independent third-party service providers.
These activities may include:
- Dune bashing.
- Camel riding.
- Sandboarding.
- Quad biking.
- Night safari.
- Stargazing.
- Desert tours.
- Other seasonal experiences.
No activity or experience is complimentary or automatically included with the accommodation booking.
All activities must be booked separately and are subject to:
- Availability.
- Separate charges.
- Weather and operating conditions.
- Age restrictions.
- Health restrictions.
- Safety requirements.
- The terms and conditions of the relevant third-party operator.
Al Salam Desert Camp may assist guests with arranging activities but does not directly operate or control third-party activity services unless expressly confirmed otherwise in writing.
Desert activities involve natural and inherent risks. Guests participate voluntarily and at their own responsibility.
Guests must:
- Follow all instructions provided by the activity operator.
- Use any required safety equipment.
- Disclose relevant medical or physical conditions.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Avoid participation while under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances.
- Inform the operator if pregnant.
- Inform the operator of back, neck, heart, mobility or other health concerns.
The camp or third-party operator may refuse participation where the activity is considered unsuitable or unsafe for the guest.
Pregnant guests and guests with medical conditions should obtain appropriate medical advice before participating in dune bashing, quad biking, camel riding or other physically demanding activities.
Independent activity operators remain responsible for their vehicles, equipment, safety procedures, licences, operating times, participation rules and activity prices.
Al Salam Desert Camp is situated in a natural desert environment.
Guests acknowledge that the desert environment may include:
- High daytime temperatures.
- Warm summer nights.
- Cold winter nights.
- Sand and dust.
- Strong wind.
- Insects.
- Scorpions.
- Reptiles.
- Uneven ground.
- Limited natural shade.
The camp takes reasonable cleaning, hygiene and preventive measures. However, it cannot guarantee that insects, scorpions or other desert wildlife will never enter outdoor areas or accommodation.
Guests should keep doors and windows closed, avoid leaving food inside accommodation, dispose of waste properly, wear suitable footwear outdoors and supervise children carefully.
Air Conditioning and Utilities
Air-conditioning performance may be affected by extreme outdoor temperatures, particularly during summer.
Guests should keep doors and windows closed while air conditioning is operating.
Because of the remote desert location, temporary interruptions may affect electricity, water, internet, air conditioning, mobile network coverage or other utilities.
The camp will take reasonable steps to restore affected services as soon as practicable.
Meals and Dietary Requirements
Accommodation is offered on a Half Board basis and includes dinner and breakfast.
Meal timing and arrangements may vary according to occupancy, season and operational requirements.
Guests must notify the camp in advance of:
- Food allergies.
- Gluten intolerance.
- Vegetarian requirements.
- Medical dietary restrictions.
- Religious dietary requirements.
- Other special meal requirements.
The camp will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests communicated in advance but cannot guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment.
Additional meals, drinks or special menu arrangements may incur additional charges.
Smoking is prohibited inside accommodation and enclosed common areas.
Open flames, candles, cooking equipment and unauthorised heating devices are not permitted inside accommodation.
Guests should not bring, leave or store uncovered food inside rooms because food may attract insects, scorpions or other desert wildlife.
Damage, Loss and Cleaning Charges
Guests are responsible for damage, breakage, loss or excessive cleaning caused by themselves, their children, visitors or other members of their group.
The camp may charge the reasonable cost of:
- Repair.
- Replacement.
- Specialist cleaning.
- Lost keys.
- Damaged furniture or equipment.
- Stained linen.
- Removal of prohibited items.
- Removal of excessive waste.
Any damage or accident should be reported immediately to camp management.
Personal Belongings
Guests are responsible for their cash, passports, identity documents, jewellery, mobile phones, electronic devices, luggage and other valuables.
The camp is not liable for loss, theft or damage unless directly caused by proven negligence on the part of Al Salam Desert Camp.
Items found after departure may be retained for a limited period. Courier, delivery or shipping costs for returning lost property are the responsibility of the guest.
Photography, Filming and Drones
Guests may take photographs and videos for personal use, provided they respect the privacy of other guests, staff, local residents, children and third-party operators.
Commercial photography, professional filming, advertising shoots and organised content production require prior written approval.
Drone use requires prior approval from the camp and must comply with all applicable Omani laws, permits and restrictions.
Privacy
Personal information submitted through the website, email, WhatsApp, payment process or booking process may be used for:
- Managing enquiries.
- Confirming reservations.
- Processing payments.
- Communicating with guests.
- Arranging requested services.
- Meeting legal and administrative requirements.
- Improving guest services.
Personal information will not be sold to third parties.
Information may be shared with relevant third-party service providers only where necessary to provide a requested service, such as a shuttle or optional activity.
Third-Party Services
Some activities, excursions, transportation and special arrangements may be delivered by independent third-party providers.
Where a third party provides a service:
- The provider’s own terms may apply.
- The provider controls availability and operating times.
- The provider is responsible for operating the service.
- Separate charges may apply.
- Safety and participation requirements may differ.
Al Salam Desert Camp may act only as an arranger or booking facilitator for such services.
Complaints
Guests should report any issue to camp management as soon as possible during their stay. This allows the team a reasonable opportunity to investigate and resolve the matter.
Formal complaints should include:
- Guest name.
- Booking reference.
- Stay dates.
- Description of the concern.
- Relevant photographs or documents.
- Preferred resolution.

Complaints should be submitted within a reasonable period after the stay.
Weather, Operational Changes and Force Majeure
Desert weather, visibility, temperature, wind, rain, road conditions and safety considerations may affect camp operations and third-party services.
The camp may modify, delay, relocate or cancel a service because of safety concerns, weather, maintenance, road conditions, utility failure, government instruction or operational requirements.
Al Salam Desert Camp will not be liable for failure, cancellation or delay caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including:
- Extreme weather.
- Flooding.
- Sandstorms.
- Road closure.
- Natural disasters.
- Government restrictions.
- Public-health emergencies.
- Civil disturbance.
- Utility failure.
- Transportation disruption.
- Security incidents.
- Events making the service unsafe or impracticable.
Depending on the circumstances, the camp may offer a revised date, booking credit, alternative service, partial refund or refund of recoverable amounts.
Limitation of Liability
Al Salam Desert Camp will take reasonable care in providing accommodation and services directly under its control.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the camp is not responsible for:
- Loss caused by the guest’s negligence.
- Unsafe driving or failure to follow directions.
- Third-party activity operations.
- Loss of personal belongings.
- Weather-related disruption.
- Natural desert conditions.
- Utility interruptions beyond reasonable control.
- Indirect or consequential losses.
- Services not included in the written booking confirmation.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded under the laws of the Sultanate of Oman.
Changes to These Terms
Al Salam Desert Camp may update these Terms and Conditions when legal, operational or commercial requirements change.
The terms applicable to a confirmed booking will normally be those provided or published at the time the reservation was confirmed, unless a change is required by law.
